3 Types Of Flooring Tiles To Renovate Your Outdated Kitchen On A Tight Budget

Posted on

If you're looking to renovate your less-than-attractive kitchen while spending as little as possible, sometimes all you need is new flooring. Fresh, new floor tiles will immediately spruce up your kitchen, and it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. Consider installing one of these three affordable types of flooring tiles to bring new life to an outdated kitchen.

Vinyl Kitchen Tile

If you're working with a shoestring budget, vinyl flooring tiles are the answer. These tiles come in a slew of colors so you can create a beautiful patterned floor for very little money. For instance, if you buy two contrasting tile colors (e.g. black and white), it's easy to create a modern checkerboard pattern on your kitchen floor.

Vinyl tiles are super easy to install, too. You can buy self-stick tiles that have a sticky back or tiles that require adhesive. Either way, you can freshen up your kitchen at home or in a rental apartment for a small investment and little effort.

Linoleum Kitchen Tile

Installing linoleum tiles on your kitchen floor is just about as easy as vinyl. However, there are four major differences between the two:

  1. The price of linoleum is higher at $2.00 to $5.00 per square foot, whereas vinyl costs about $0.50 to $2.00 per square foot.
  2. Linoleum is less resistant to water, so you want to make sure the seams are very tight between the tiles.
  3. Linoleum tiles are comprised of natural materials like cork, wood and linseed oil. Vinyl tiles are manufactured using man-made materials.
  4. The lifespan of linoleum is about twice as long as vinyl. Linoleum can last up to 40 years, while the lifespan of vinyl is typically 20 years or less.

One of the great benefits of installing linoleum on your kitchen floor is the fact that these tiles are naturally resistant to bacteria.

Cement-Bodied Kitchen Tile

Another excellent option for affordable flooring in your kitchen is cement tile. These tiles can be manufactured to look like pricier materials like stone or ceramic, but they cost a lot less. Because they're manufactured from concrete, these tiles are extremely durable and resilient, too.

Cement tiles can be found in a number of colors and different surface textures. If you long for a beautiful floor that costs a lot less than it appears, go with cement tiles.

New flooring is one way to jazz up your kitchen without a huge amount of effort. It is also a good way to achieve a whole new look in the kitchen without worrying about breaking your budget.
